Keeping pet owners educated and bringing awareness to one of the worst diseases I know is Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus, otherwise know as bloat.
I’m personally extremely passionate about this subject and believe the more pet owners are aware about this disease the more dogs lives are saved ever year or the diseases prevented all together in some cases. When a dog develops bloat, it’s stomach enlarges from the accumulation of air, and then it twists. This cuts off the entrance and exit of the digestive tract, which causes the stomach to get even bigger. The swelling stops blood flow back to the heart and the pressure in the abdomen inhibits breathing. Bloat can kill a dog within hours or some causes less, circulation fails and the dog goes into shock.
If you see a dog trying to vomit, its abdomen enlarging, or its back end getting weak, its an emergency and see a veterinarian straight away.
Please advised I’m not a vet or have any medical training, just a loving pet sitting caring about the welfare of all dogs.
